Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker J.C.D. Prabhakar Inaugurates Neuro Rehabilitation CME at MGM Healthcare

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Speaker J. C. D. Prabhakar inaugurated a Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme on neuro rehabilitation organised by MGM Healthcare in Chennai.

The programme also saw the release of a handbook titled ‘Restoring Function, Renewing Hope’, which focuses on the role and importance of neuro rehabilitation.

Dr. V. R. Roopeshkumar, Director of Neurosurgery, Dr. A. J. Rajendran, Clinical Lead, Rehabilitation Medicine, and Dr. M. P. Kaviyarasan, Consultant Neurosurgeon, MGM Healthcare, contributed to the handbook.

More than 150 professionals from the field of neuro rehabilitation attended the one-day CME programme. The participants included physiatrists, neurologists, neurosurgeons, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists and clinical psychologists.

The programme covered neuro rehabilitation, restoration of function and recent developments in the field. Sessions were conducted on stroke lower limb rehabilitation, neuro rehabilitation in the ICU, pulmonary mechanics, stroke hand recovery, occupational therapy interventions, orthotics and prosthetics, brain-computer interface and advanced therapies in neuro rehabilitation.

The CME featured more than 26 speakers.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. V. R. Roopeshkumar said the programme provided a platform for healthcare professionals to exchange knowledge, clinical experiences and evolving practices in neurological rehabilitation.

He highlighted the importance of a multidisciplinary approach in neuro rehabilitation and said continued learning and adapting to advances in medicine and rehabilitation can help healthcare professionals support patients in achieving greater independence, dignity and quality of life.
