New Delhi: C.M. Vishnu Prabhu has been appointed as the Trade Ambassador of the India ASEAN Trade Council during a ceremony held in New Delhi, aimed at strengthening economic, trade, and investment cooperation between India and the ASEAN region.

The ASEAN bloc comprises Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and Timor-Leste. The appointment comes amid continued efforts to enhance regional economic engagement and cross-border business cooperation.

The event was attended by Ambassadors, High Commissioners, diplomats, business leaders, policymakers, and representatives from various countries, highlighting the growing focus on regional trade partnerships and economic diplomacy.

During the ceremony, speakers noted Vishnu Prabhu’s experience in international business relations, trade facilitation, and economic cooperation. His appointment is expected to support efforts aimed at expanding trade opportunities, encouraging investment flows, and strengthening business engagement between India and ASEAN member nations.

The programme also marked the release of a report titled “India’s Achievements in Africa, the Pacific, and Emerging Global Partnerships.” The report outlines India’s diplomatic outreach, development initiatives, trade achievements, and strategic engagement across several regions.

According to the report, India has expanded its role in areas including capacity building, sustainable development, infrastructure cooperation, technology transfer, healthcare, education, and economic diplomacy. It also highlights the country’s efforts to strengthen cooperation among developing economies through mutually beneficial partnerships.

Representatives of the India ASEAN Trade Council and the United Diplomatic Council reiterated their focus on improving regional connectivity, facilitating cross-border investments, supporting entrepreneurship, and creating opportunities for businesses in India and Southeast Asia.

The event concluded with discussions on enhancing economic collaboration, strengthening people-to-people ties, and promoting strategic partnerships aimed at supporting sustainable growth and shared prosperity across the Indo-Pacific region.
