Kauvery Hospital Launches 5G Ambulance Service Across Chennai
Chennai, August 12, 2026: Kauvery Hospital has introduced a 5G-enabled continuous care ambulance service in Chennai, allowing doctors at the hospital to remotely monitor patients’ vital signs in real time while they are being transported.
The new ambulance network includes more than 30 advanced ambulances deployed across key locations in the city. The service is designed to support patients requiring emergency care, including neonatal, paediatric, neurological and cardiac care.
Ambulances Deployed Across Key Chennai Areas
The ambulances are available across Kauvery’s facilities in Alwarpet, Vadapalani, Radial Road and Maa Kauvery Radial Road.
Deployment locations have been identified based on population density, traffic patterns, major public gathering points and accident-prone areas. These include Poonamallee High Road, Porur, Kilambakkam–Vandalur, Outer Ring Road, Karapakkam–OMR, Tondiarpet, Perambur, Adyar, Guindy, Medavakkam and Kelambakkam, among other areas.
The positioning is intended to reduce travel time and enable faster access to emergency medical care.
Real-Time Patient Monitoring
The ambulances are equipped with a Continuous Patient Monitoring System (CPMS) connected to a control room at the hospital.
Through an IoT-based system, vital parameters such as SpO2, blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate and pulse rate are collected and transmitted to the hospital in real time.
The ambulances are equipped as Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) units, with ventilators, defibrillators, syringe and infusion pumps, suction apparatus and multiparameter monitors.
With 5G connectivity, emergency physicians can receive patient information while the ambulance is in transit and provide clinical guidance to the paramedics. This allows the medical team to have information about the patient’s condition before the ambulance reaches the hospital.
GPS-Based Ambulance Dispatch
The hospital’s CPMS Control Room uses a GPS-enabled Computer-Aided Dispatch system to identify the nearest available ambulance following an emergency call.
The control room team collects essential patient information and coordinates the ambulance dispatch, with the objective of supporting timely emergency care during the critical initial period following an incident.
SOS Facility Through Kauvery Kare App
The ambulance service can also be accessed through the one-tap SOS feature on the Kauvery Kare App.
When the SOS feature is activated, the control room contacts the user. The user or a bystander can also connect with a Kauvery doctor through a 24/7 video call for medical guidance until emergency assistance arrives.
According to Kauvery Hospital, the ambulance network handles an average of 1,100 emergencies every month across Chennai.
The service was launched by Dr. A. Amalraj IPS, Additional Director General of Police, Greater Chennai Police, in the presence of Dr. Manivannan Selvaraj, Founder and Managing Director, Kauvery Group of Hospitals.
Dr. Amalraj said strengthening coordination and care delivery before a patient reaches the hospital is important for emergency response in a city such as Chennai.
Dr. Manivannan Selvaraj said the system enables clinical teams to remain connected with paramedics during patient transportation, while Dr. Aravindan Selvaraj, Co-Founder and Executive Director, Kauvery Group of Hospitals, said continuous monitoring can support clinical decision-making during transit.
