AINU Chennai Launches Men’s Health Drive Ahead of International Men’s Day

Chennai: In the run-up to International Men’s Day (November 19), the Asian Institute of Nephrology & Urology (AINU), Chennai, has launched a Men’s Health Awareness Program to address the rising incidence of male infertility and erectile dysfunction among younger Indian men.

The initiative urges early screening and lifestyle changes to combat reproductive and sexual health issues often overlooked due to stigma. “We’re seeing men in their 20s and 30s with conditions once confined to older age groups,” said Dr Sanjay Prakash J, Clinical Lead – AINU Andrology.

Key Findings:

  • Male infertility contributes to 40–50% of all infertility cases.
  • A 2023 pan-India study found 72.1% of men had abnormal semen quality.
  • Seminal parameters have declined by 1.27 million/ml annually over 37 years.
  • ED affects 1 in 10 Indian men, with 25% of cases now under age 30.

Doctors link these trends to stress, obesity, diabetes, smoking, and environmental toxins.

AINU’s Men’s Wellness Program Offers:

  • Andrology consultation
  • Hormone and metabolic screening
  • Scrotal ultrasound
  • Semen analysis

The program aims to normalise screening and promote early intervention for better outcomes.
